Glasswerk Ireland Launch
Glasswerk Ireland Launch @ The Sugar Club, Dublin
Date: 23rd April 2009
Support: Butterfly Explosion (pictured), The Whiteliars, NC Lawlor, The Last Tycoons

The weather may have taken a turn for the worse last Friday, but that didn't dampen the spirits of everyone who turned up at the Sugar Club for what is already being hailed as the best Glasswerk launch yet.

Revelers arrived early for the complimentary Bulmers Pear before tucking into their seats to listen to opening act The Last Tycoons. Danny & Steve played a perfect opening set before being joined by the genius-like talent of NC Lawlor who set the tone for the evening & had the already thriving crowd clapping along in anticipation. His songs are foot-tapping, raucous crowd-pleasers throughout, and the audience never leaves the palm of his hand.

The Whiteliars were next up, hard to believe it was their debut Dublin show with a sound so fully accomplished & effortlessly executed. Their laid-back blend of classic Americana sounded full-bodied yet delicately restrained, with a rousing finale before a break prior to Butterfly Explosion taking centre stage.

Opening with arguably their finest moment ‘Vision’, layers of beautiful noise gradually built to a thunderous climax of drums, swirling guitars & extreme tension. More was to follow with ‘Carpark’, ‘Chemistry’ & a rocking version of the gorgeous ‘Sophia’.

Receiving the biggest cheer from the now full-house, frontman Gazz Carr was barely audible when he did speak and seemed way more comfortable when he’s lost in his music – which judging by tonight, may take him very far indeed.

As Butterfly disbanded the DJs got started & the dancefloor was packed within seconds. DJs Trev Radiator & the Clampdown crew went back to back (at times fighting for the decks) finishing off a fantastic night of new music, great DJs & of course the very tasty complimentary drinks courtesy of New Bulmers Pear.

Glasswerk have landed in Ireland, and we can’t wait for the next one!
