There seems to be a lot of artists out there determined to remind us all of past glories. Punk and old school rock seems to be the flavour at the moment, so it’s nice to have someone else out there reminding us of another time when music was good. Not to romanticise it too much, but that time was mid-90’s Indie-Rock. And no I’m not talking about a new Oasis or Blur. This is more in the vein of what the ladies contribution to that time involved. Put early Catatonia and cross it with Tanya Donnelly’s Belly and you have Cathy Davey’s ‘Clean and Neat.’
Short, Sweet and fun, ‘Clean and Neat’ is so much pop fun in fact that she even finds time to do a bit of ‘Doo Doo’ing. Fans of all this kind of girly rock may want to hope that times change and more of the same can become more evident in the future. As for now, Cathy Davey will have to fight hard until some of the more recent trends blow over.
