The film ceremonies are underway and soon it will be the turn of music to give the awards to the beautiful and best in this field of the creative arts. The Scottish alternative music scene is bustling with hope for the future and so it is of no surprise to see the Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs) to be in its second year.

Everything is covered from delightful acoustic to the steeliest of metal bands Scotland can produce. There are lots of exciting names to be nominated. The likes of Stanley Odd and Hey Enemy, both of whom are nominated for best live act (other nominees are: Lady North, Make Sparks, Three Blind Wolves & Young Fathers).

Other categories include best electronic (Capitals, Conquering Animal Sounds, Grum, Indian Red Lopez, Akira Kiteshi & MOPP); best rock/alternative (Boycotts, Kid Adrift, Little Eskimos, Shutter, This Familiar Smile & Lightguides); best metal (Burn The Sunset, Carnivores, Departures, MetalTech, Secta Rouge & Zombie Militia); best newcomer (Bwani Junction, James MacKenzie & The Aquascene, Kobi Onyame, Miniature Dinosaurs, The Winter Tradition & XAVIA) and best acoustic (Alan McKim, Tragic O’ Hara, JJ Bull, Steven Kemp, RM Hubbert & Rachel Sermanni).

However, this need not be your only participation, you can now vote for your favourite band or performer on the SAMA11 website which can be found at [link].

It will be a hard task judging the contestants, a mixture of the great and the good from the Scottish music industry. This is not confined to those from the central belt of the M8 corridor as the scouts will come from Inverness to Ayrshire and involved with various levels of the business. The panel includes Richy Muirhead, David Bell, Jim MacLoud, Yvonne McCellan, Steve Robertson and Stephen Hulme.
